My husband and I are new to RVing, we brought our first Motorhome this past May we are still learning, Attached is a picture of a metal box that our 30 amp cord is attached to. Above it is the box attached to the generator which has a wire coming into the bigger box. There is a plug, pluged into the box from a wire that come out of the back of the same box. The orange wires go into the RV into the power converter. Not sure of the purpoes of the BOX. Also we lost all power from our gen to our RV. Everyting works when pluged into shore power, and gen runs great! just no power delived to RV. I wounder if it could be this box that is messed up?

it is really hard to see what is going on, looks like the receptacle cover is loose, what is the cord plugged into it for, whats the black nob on the cover, it is hard to think of how it is wired with the picture, can you explain a little more on where the cords go, maybe a better view

Need more info....... but also the transfer switch from the generator could be bad if you get shore power to work, but not power from the generator. Not sure if that is what you are saying ??????
The box with the loose cover and the one above are junction boxes (where wires meet.) Can't read the yellow tag. The big one could have the power transfer switch ??

Caution the wires inside the box with the loose lid may very well be HOT. It looks like that box may be a manual transfer that will change between the shore power and the gen power. But unless you are real knowledgeable of electricity this may be a case where you get a pro to figure this out for you. Would not want anyone to get hurt.

if it is unplugged in and thee generator there is no danger, it is just hard to say with out knowing, and seeing the whole picture, unless someone who owns the same coach can chime in with a a lot more knowledge of the wiring

No power from the generator could be the circuit breaker located on the generator itself.

First I would have a look inside the boxes......
I replaced my metal box with a plastic one--wires came loose and shorted out on box!!
Then I soldered all the wires together and then taped them well with electrical tape....Marett connectors should not be used as they will come loose over time!!!!

Sorry my husband is the writer in the family, I should have let him type all of this. Thanks for all the input! We have a 1999 Forest River Windsong. The writing on the box says This connection is for 110-125 volts 60 HZ 20 Ampere". "Power Solution" "Duel Power" "Model DP0001" I have done the google search and can fine nothing that tells me what this is. The wraped wires come from the Generator box to the box on the bottom. The two orange wires go into the power converter/battery charger in the RV. The plugged wire comes from the back box to this one in the front. There is also an on/off switch that seams to do nothing. The last wire coming out of this "magic" box is the 30 amp wire and plug for the shore power. Both AC will not run at the same time and I am wondering if this "20 Ampere" has any thing to do with that problem. Thank again!!

OK hope this may help. It appears to me the power solutions is no longer in business it least there web site is no longer on line. What I think you have here is a power solutions dual power adapter so that you can run both AC without tripping the breaker. Here is sort of how it is suppose to work when at a park with 50a service, you plug the 30a cord into the 50a (with adapter) and plug the 20a rear AC circuit to the 30a plug (with an adapter). So to use this thing you need two power cords. I assume the on off switch on this thing is to allow the 2nd AC an option to either run off the first cord or the second cord. Good luck with this one.

Start at the generator.find the circuit breaker. Turn it off. Turn it on. Do all this, unplugged with gen off. After the reset start the gen and see what you get. If still nothing, suspect the automatic switch relay. It will be in line from gen to the 120 volt breaber box. Or likely between gen and these connector boxes. That switch is a relay that can easily fail.

clr,
Thanks so much. I found the same stuff, but I still dont' know about the second cord. I understand that the 30 amp cord needs a adaptor to go into the 50 amp plug, but were does second cord go? Does the plug come out of the box and the second cord go into the cord or does it go into the plug? If I am using it to use the second AC should the swich on or off?

I really do not want to steer you wrong here! I have know idea how this is wired into your coach so not able to give you instructions on where to plug in the second cord. I would start tracing wires and creating some type of wiring diagram for this. If you then post the diagram someone may be able to help. Sorry for not being more help with this but this could of been done several ways.
