7 pin wiring question

Just bought a Flagstaff pop up and have to convert my truck from 4 to 7 pin. What does the 7th pin do, the center Aux pin? Is that wired to a hot 12v source? Do I even need the Aux wired?

No need to wire it. Sometimes used for backup lights.

does the popup have electric brakes? if it does, you're required by law to have a brake controller in the truck.

When we owned a popup the aux. wire ran the fridge during transit. It could run on propane/120 volt/12 volt. Just remember to unplug the connector when parked for an extended time otherwise your vehicle battery will be dead. I recall learning that lesson the hard way

bikendan, yes it has brakes and yes the truck has a controller.

wildwood1, as part of the 6 pin it has a dedicated 12v source for that.

So thats why I want to know what the 7th one does. Only good answer so far is for the reverse lights if the camper is equipped with it. So in my case it looks like i have no need for the Aux 7th pin.

Just to be sure, the black wire (12V) is hot all the time correct? It is hooked directly to the battery.

Make sure it is fused or circuit breaker. 30 to 40 amp is good with the proler sized 10 to 8 gauge wiring.

Yup I ran 10awg wire no problem there, inline fuse also. All that is good, I just wanted to be sure it was always hot DC to the connector. I'm sure its suppose to be hot.

New trucks have it switched. My old 91 was always hot. I wired my Jeep so it is always hot.

Cool, sounds good. I don't have any worries about it. Its not connected to anything so its not like its draining my battery.
My 7 pin adapter does have the LED's on it so the 12V is always on, but I don't think a LED will drain my battery.
I do need a dual battery setup though, with all my off road lights, winch, etc i gotta watch what i run at one time right now.
