I'm going to try this again and I hope the words "idiot" and "moron" don't get tossed in. I was just at the FROG rally last week and attended the electrical 101 seminar put on by one of the factory service departments. The technician told us the the converter is not intended to charge a discharged battery. It could would go into what he called boat mode if the battery was below a certain voltage. He told us to charge with a battery charger. This is someone who works with converters day in, day out. Just my two cents worth.

That should be "float" mode. It's a lower charge.
Or
Maybe "boat mode" is something I haven't heard about.

How about boat mode is spell check! That does not happen to you. He is right, took the 101 when I was there a couple years ago.

Ok so I now have the "dogbone" or adapter I needed to plug the motorhome into my regular garage plug. My question is do I turn the "battery off" switch back to "battery on" so it can my batteries in good shape. I know I basically can't run anything of the power from my garage and that it is just to keep my batteries in good shape, correct? Thanks for any help!

Keep the bat. on and charge away. Just remember to check the fluid level in the bats. Converters are different charging then your vehicle system.

Melntb, dealer left our bat switch on and ran it deader n hammer when we left it for warranty work when 1 month old. We ran the generator (mh) since we were leaving for a trip to re charge them and have no problems since... over a year a go. We now have a standing rule to leave a light on near the door when unloading after a trip, especially during daylight, to help us remember to turn the bat off.

Even with it off unless you disconnect the bat. There are things that are still on after you turn off the bat. Just a thought.

Yes ours were dead and we recharged them with an auto battery charger and took it for a small trip this weekend. They are fully charged now but we wanted to prevent them draining again so I have it plugged into my garage through a dogbone adapter. I just wasn't sure about whether to keep the battery disconnect on or turn it to battery on. I know there are phantom loads pulling even with the battery switch off. Just trying to figure this RV thing out still. LOL

If plugged in, bat switch on. Just watch your liquid levels in the bat.

How often do I need to check? We checked them while recharging the batteries (had to take the caps off)? What kind of interval do you suggest?
