Bad Converter?

I thinking I have a bad converter on a 2005 Rockwood 8318SS.

In August, I purchased a new battery for the trailer after ruling out the circuit breakers. The previous battery was dead dead unable to take a charge or so I was told. (Internal Battery Short). After replacing the battery things seemed to be working fine. After sitting idle for a month with 110v connected, the new battery is dead. I've can recharge the battery using an external battery charger but only to 40 amps before I get an "Internal Battery Short" fault.

The fuses for the converter appear ok, but...

1. When the battery is connected it does not charge the battery.
2. When the battery is dead or disconnected it does not convert the AC power to DC power (no lights).

Am I on the right trail here? Any suggestions?

Thanks

It definitely sounds like a bad converter. Especially since you say it doesn't provide any 12volt power to the unit. If you're handy with a multimeter (and have one) you can do some more checks. Charge the battery and check the voltage. Then hook it to the RV and check to see if the voltage increases. It should a bit anyway.

I don't understand what you mean by this--
"I've can recharge the battery using an external battery charger but only to 40 amps before I get an "Internal Battery Short" fault."

But this--
"1. When the battery is connected it does not charge the battery.
2. When the battery is dead or disconnected it does not convert the AC power to DC power (no lights)."
means your power center is bad.
I hope you're still in warranty and not too far from the dealer!
