Basic Converter and Battery Connection Question
In the context of your 'typical' 35A, 6 DC circuit converter like the one in my 8' popup...
The DC output connections from the converter to the low voltage circuits is pretty obvious, as is the charger connection from the converter to the battery. What I don't get is how battery power is distributed to those same circuits when there is no AC input power to the converter.
For my level of understanding so far, I've just assumed that when there's no input power to the DC power supply, some magic 'diode thing' happens and lets battery current flow back through the 6 fused DC circuits, if there's any load on them of course.
Should I just remain blissful in my ignorance?
The current converter is a Progressive Dynamic PD4135 that I just installed today. The one it replaces was a WFCO 35A unit. I assume they work close to the same way as far as this question goes.
ANy help greatly appreciated.

simple answer it like putting a battery charger on a battery you have a light connected to. when the charger is on the light is getting its power from the charger unplug the charger and it takes power from the battery. this is not brain surgery or magic I'm not sure what you are expecting

The converter is almost always always producing a higher voltage than the battery. Both the converter and the battery are in a "Parallel Circuit". Any loads will draw from the supply that has the higher voltage. No special circuitry is needed.

Okay, thanks. Makes total sense now that you've highlighted the fact the two supplies are in a simple parallel arrangement. Honestly, I didn't get that at all. Why, I can't explain. Sometimes my brain don't work so good.

It's just amazing how they get so much smoke in such a little diode that's released when it gets to much current.

bongo boy, may I ask what prompted you to replace the existing power whatchacallit with the new one? Was your 'old' one giving you trouble or showing symptoms of some kind? I know the power supply in our Surveyor is the, well, for lack of a better word, cheapest they could put in and still make code. I have often wondered if there was a better alternative, especially when camping in the winter and the cooling fan in it cylces on and off all nite long with the holding tank heaters on. Thanks for the good post!

handydc, I would like to ask the same question of you as our Surveyor has the same WFCO unit yours had before swapping it out. Was it a hard job? Notice any real benefits to doing it? Thanks!
