When you're plugged into shore power (120 VAC) your
converter will charge the trailer's battery if everything is working properly.
When you're towing, the alternator on your car will charge both the tow vehicle and camper batteries if everything is working properly.
An inverter changes 12 VDC to 120 VAC, and most of them are not very efficient, meaning a substantial percentage of the battery power you're using winds up turning into heat.
