Battery charging from TV not from shore power

Hello all. Noticed my battery was a little low when I picked up my trailer Friday to camp this weekend. I figured it would easily get charged with 2 nights if shore power. As I was breaking camp today last step was hitching up, electric hitch would not work. Battery meter inside camper said 1/3??? Been plugged in for 36 hours an no change??? I plugged the trailer back in to shore hitch worked fine, deities to TV and hitch worked fine. After driving home 45 min-1 hour battery now reads 2/3 full an hitch would work with battery.

Before I drag my camper back to dealer and wait a week or two for them to fix, and then tell me all you had to do was....<insert an answer here for me>.

Other info all fuses and breaker are NOT tripped/blown from what I can tell. All systems, lights, appliances work fine. Lights worked under battery power when the hitch did not so battery power is getting into the trailer

Sounds like your converter may not be charging you battery

Is there a way to test that other than connecting and seeing if it charges?

Correct me if I'm wrong but your meter should read full charge if the trailer is on shorepower and the battery charger is working even if the battery is completely dead. It will read the battery voltage off the charger not the battery. The battery meter is really only usefull when there is no external voltage being applied to the battery (ie. a charger). So if your meter is reading 1/3 while hooked up to shorepower I would say the charger is most definately not working.

I had just disconnected from shore power. I checked it after the hitch would not extend to see if the battery had power

if u have a volt meter. disconnect from shore power then check the voltage at the battery terminals. then plug back to shore power and check the same voltage again. u should show an increase in voltage if the converter is charging it. i would expect at least a volt increase.

the battery may also be bad. if it was dragged down too low too long, as a rule they won't recover. if the bat won't take or hold a charge, it will have to be replaced.

I think the battery is ok as it does charge when connected to tow vehicle. I did put a meter to it Friday while connected to shore power (had meter on dc setting, is that correct?). And read nothing but wires on meter got HOT fast so I stopped before I broke something

Sounds like you had the meter leads plugged into the holes on the meter to read amps and wass shorting the battery out. It should have blown the fuse on the meter. Make sure the red lead is in the hole for ohms/volts

I am not familiar with the type of camper you have, but on mine next to the entrance door ther is a switch that turns the converter power on and off. If this switch is on you can test the converter by unhooking the battery and testing the leads. should read 12 to 13 amps.
