Battery Dead Again

Got all the stuff together to winterize and when out storage to tow it home and the battery is dead again. This is the third time this year sat for about a month and half. Tried to hook the truck up and put some charge of the battery so I could operate the front legs with zero luck and didn’t have my jumper cables with me. So I pulled the battery and brought home and put it on the charger.
I have a factory-installed battery shut off switch and first time I’m not sure if it was on or off but the last two I know it was off. When you turn off the battery switch the lights are cut off, slides don’t work, rear auto level jacks don’t work, water pump doesn’t work and the water heater and air/heater were shut off and the radio is total dead but the front jacks still work.
Just purchased a battery cut off switch from Amazon and going to install it this weekend. Since the red lead has several smaller wires I think I will just install it the negative side, should really make any difference between positive or negative as long as I break the circuit. Probably need a new battery since it went below 1 volt 3 times now.
Anyone use this switch or any reason it won’t work? Amazon.com: Marinco 701 Battery Disconnect Switch: Automotive

That's a good switch. And it doesn't matter whether you put it on the positive or negative side.

Since the positive side had several small wires, it may have been powering things like the propane detector, and that's why it was killing the battery.

I use a version of that switch on my boat.. works well

Here is the switch I put on the Neg post on the RV. pic below

I chose the neg post based on what I have read here on this forum. The neg post is safer to work with if you have to take off a cable and it touches the frame or some other part of the RV

if the battery went to 1 volt ONCE, then it will never be the same battery again and only a small drain on the battery for a short period of time... like a day or two will make it dead again...

never park your rig without providing a maintenance 12 VDC charger for any battery...

If battery is going dead with shutoff in off position, check breakaway switch to insure it is not engaged.
The 12V Aux pin on your TV provides 12V through a long wire ( length of TV and some % of RV) and will not be able to overcome a dead battery. Also check fuse and relay ( if used) on TV for 12V Aux on 7 pin Bargman. Many new trucks do not install the fuse and or relay even if you purchase a tow ready vehicle.

I was going to use that but mine sets in recess under the bedroom with vent hose venting fumes overboard. The two back screws a hard to get to so I decided to go switch that mounts on the back wall and easy to get to.

It has been killed twice before and the last time it last month and half. I think you are right because this third time and been on 15amp charger for 6 hours and still shows zero charge...

Where I store there isn't power so I don't have a choice... Winter I pull it out and put on a trickle charger.

Project for tomorrow. The RV service said that if a battery was dead there just isn't enough power coming from the TV to over come a dead battery. The battery read .8 volts when unhooked.

I did some research on just doing that but our history of not keep a RV for couple years the cost of installation and the fact that we don't boondock just makes it not worth it.

Tried to claim warranty on the battery but they put it on a charger and it charge and now reads 13.5 volts. They put run it on their battery test and gave clean bill health. I know probably will not hold a charge but it will get my 5er to the house so I can winterize it and back to storage. I going to pull the battery and put on trickle charge and deal with a new battery before out next camping trip.

I did ordered the battery switch I link to above from Amazon - to my surprise I order at 2:00 pm Friday with free Prime Shipping and I got Sunday morning by 10:00 AM.

Carefull with dead batteries. They are most likely to explode. Don't be rough with it.

I learned that some battery charges will not charge a battery with less than 2 volts coming from the battery and my Sears charger is one them that won't. The one at the dealer didn't have that restriction, that is why he was able to charge the battery and that's why I left mine on it all day wouldn't charge. It was worth getting up this morning - I learn something new.

Most " automatic " chargers won't charge unless it seem " some" voltage.

If you can, use another battery connected to the dead battery, to fool the charger. It will then charge both.

what kind of battery is it? ... #27? .... does it have access to acid levels ? ... if the levels are down showing top of plates....adding distilled you might get some recovery.

I'll never buy another battery from WM.

I had a deep cycle battery from them about 8 months and it went bad. They said the warranty was good for only 90 days! Guess I didn't realize that when I bought it originally. Went to AutoZone and bought the same size battery, even a few bucks cheaper, with a 1 year warranty. Never again will I go to WM for a battery!

And they are giving batteries away every day for $100+!

Oh, I am a firm believer of a battery cutoff switch.
