battery disconnect knob

Hi, I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to RV'ing, so please forgive my ridiculous question. There is knob by the power converter that says "Battery disconnect;" is the battery disconnected when the knob is pulled out or pushed in? If I'm trying to charge the battery while I'm plugged in to electricity, which position should the knob be in? I have a Shamrock 23SS.

Same with mine.

You should be able to check on your by pushing it in and trying to turn on a light and repeat for pulling it out.
