Battery disconnect knob
New Flagstaff and the battery disconnect doesn't say to pull it out or push it in. Also, just exactly what's the purpose. Our old camper didn't have one.
Thanks
GC

There are items in the trailer that will run the battery down, the stereo is just one.
One could call it a "safety device" as well, no power = no shorts.

X2 - to find what devices/appliances are disabled when the battery is disconnected, just push the knob "in" and see what is powered/ unpowered and then pull the knob "out" to see what's powered/unpowered - it's a learning by doing thing.

I would like to add that this is one of the things that SHOULD be covered during your walk thru.
I am not sure how yours works I just twist mine.

Check the voltage with it in and out.

I should have been more clear - I meant to say/ask if any of us were surprised that the function of the battery disconnect wasn't covered in the PDI by the dealer?

You were clear, I would not be surprised if it was not covered.

Me either - seems like some dealers don't know their product(s) or don't care.

I guess some are that way, guess we were lucky.
The walk thru was almost two hours and I still ask questions and had him repeat some of what he said just so I was clear.

It should kill everything not hardwired to the battery (electric jacks, some slides, etc. )
I'm not surprised it wasn't covered either. I knew enough to know what to ask on my new one (something about the regulator and the electric on the water heater) and the guy actually had the answers, but it's hit and miss. Car dealers are just as bad or worse. Nothing like going into a dealership and knowing more than the salesman.....

Mine didn't even have one, I had to install it. So the PDI was no problem. I have never thought much of PDI anyway, I end up crawling around and figuring everything out myself anyway...
No substitute for good ole curiosity. By the time my new 5er was on it's first trip I pretty much new what everything did and where everything was, including removing panels to see where all the wiring was, plumbing etc. was. Cheap insurance when something goes wrong, which hasn't happened in my case.

On mine the slides and tongue jack are hard wired to the battery so they will work without having to engage the cutoff switch. Most everything else has to have the DC power to run such as the refrigerator controls, lights, etc. My CO monitor is right next to the cut off switch and the green light on it goes out when the battery cut off is engaged. That's what little I know about it.

Our PDI guy covered it. This guy was *militant* with our PDI. At one point the shop foreman distracted DH, asking about the tonneau cover on our TV.
PDI guy was polite but *firm* in putting a stop to that and directing DH's attention back to what he was instructing us about...which was the hitch set-up....i.e. important stuff.
I gotta admit, he was so thorough that I was in info overload after 2 hours.
