I'm going to follow this thread because I'm curious how a switch boils a battery. I just installed a cutoff switch on my trailer and all it is is a switch.

It was not the switch that boiled the batteries. I left the sure power plugged in for along time and it was the converter over charging the batteries

Your converter is either over charging or you have a bad battery or the battery was way low on water.

I just wired one of these switches into my camper and my friends camper, took about 15 minutes total for both! I cant see how the switch could damage the battery, unless there is an issue with your connections? I used a 2 gauge premade battery cable to connect it to the battery, havent seen any issues as of yet. Thinking its a charging issue or battery

if you use the disconnect switch correctly, there's no need to keep the trailer hooked up to shore power, therefore no chance of the converter boiling the battery.

with my disconnect switch on my 2 batteries, i left my Roo in storage for 4 months and the batteries were only down to about 75%.

your converter was either an old single stage one or went bad. the newer 3 stage converter won't do this unless they also go bad.

Derick,

I have a Blue Seas battery switch so haven't used the Marinco. I have seen that switch used on boats, however, and it seems to work well and looked well made.

Have you isolated the cause for your boiled battery? Plenty of people leave their trailers plugged in, periodically checking the water levels and voltage in their battery, and have not had any problems. As others mentioned, it sould be an old one-stage converter depending on the age of your trailer, a converter gone bad, or a problem with the battery.

(edit - sorry but I just re-read and this is for a new trailer . My fault for not paying attention. Ignore that part about isolating the cause for the old trailer).
