Battery needed if on a permanent site???
I will be putting my '95 Sierra on a permanent site and was wondering if i can simply do away with the battery, since the one for it now is completely dead, without any harm? Also, since it'll be placed on a permanent site and wont be moved for a long time, has anyone hardwired the electrical? I checked it out yesterday and it seems like it'd be pretty straight forward splicing into the power cable inside the camper.

You do need a battery in there, it stabilizes the system and protects the converter.
As for hard wiring, I don't see why not. You could tie in directly where your shore power cable ties in, plus tying in there you leave it easy to change back if needed.

for that old of a trailer, the converter may require a battery, in order for it to work.
you're required by law to have a battery, when transporting the trailer. once you get to the site, then you can remove it, if your converter will work without one.

Curious. What law requires a battery?

Law or not - the breakaway switch requires battery power to engage the emergency braking system if necessary. Would you want to have your unit disconnect and not have the emergency brakes activated?

the emergency breakaway switch requires power to activate the trailer's brakes, if it disconnect from the tow vehicle while in motion. that's why it requires a battery to be legal on the road.

I know a few of my units around your year of trailer required a battery to be hooked up even running the fridge on electric.

Only progressive dynamics converters don't require a battery but suggest it, and that is only models from the last year or so.
If its anything else but a PD it must have a battery to buffer the electrical load not to mention for the emergency break away switch.

I did not say I didn't understand why a battery is required, I did not say I would want to pull a trailer without a emergency breakaway switch, I only asked what LAW.
And believe it or not, it was totally out of curiosity as I stated.
And is some cases, the breakaway battery is separate from the trailer's supply battery. In fact, all the trailers we have in our fleet are powered by an external battery that is mounted to the frame and recharged via the TV's power.
I also looking over trailers laws, there are some states that do not state a breakaway brake switch is required. That is why I asked.
