I have cable locks over the batteries. Will it stop someone with a large bolt cutter? NO, even if I had an actual padlock! Will it stop someone who sees them and wants them, but has no tools? YES!

My "educated" & common sense answer is that the brake power wire goes to the positive terminal on the battery and the white ground wire goes directly to the the negative post. Is this correct? and do each of the the remaining wires goes as follows:
Red to positive black to negative.
If I'm reading this right, then I don't see any wires that go to power the actual trailer itself (I.e. the fridge, lights, etc...). First, let's summarize what you've got:

1) White - Ground (Obvious by connection to frame)
2) Orange/Black - Brake's breakaway power?
3) Red - Electric Winch
4) Black - Electric Winch

Since you traced #1 and #2, you're probably pretty safe with those. The White will go to the negative terminal and the orange/black will go to the positive.

#3 and #4 are the ones in question. One of these should actually be the power for the whole trailer, and it's most likely the one with the larger diameter if they're different sizes.

The other one is questionable. It 'might' be the the power for the electric winch, independent of the power for the whole trailer, or it 'might' be the negative for the electric winch, independent of the ground on the frame.

Your best bet is to trace them further first, and open things up if necessary, because you want to be 100% certain where a wire ends up before you start hooking power up to it.

There's no use crying over spilled milk, unless it's on your keyboard.

Never really thought this could be a problem, but I really like the cable lock idea. If someone is determined they would get past it, but it would stop a camp prowler looking for an easy solution to "his" dead battery problem.

Had such a problem with my power cable a few years back. Poles can be a long way from the site and somebody solved their problem by finding mine just laying there. Been pad locking cables since.

Thanks for letting us know about this. Will add cable lock this weekend!
