Battery voltage

My group 31 Deep cycle battery manufactured by Crown Battery has been sitting in my basement since Nov. when I pulled it out for storage, Read the voltage on it yesterday with volt meter and it was 12v. Put the charger on it at 7amps for 24 hours, after that it read 13v. Should it be higher or should keep charging ( battery case was warm to the touch and fluid level is up) I was thinking it should be around 13.8 - 14.2 . Any thoughts?

It should charge at ~13.8 to 14.4 volts but at idle the battery should read about 12.5 volts.

Thanks for your reply but the battery is sitting in my basement ( bricks and mortar house) not in the MH. So there isn't any idling

He means resting. Fresh off a charge they will hover at 13V plus for several hours, but should stabilize in the ~12.65 range if all is well with it.

Measuring immediately after removing the charger, you are measuring the surface charge and not the actual state of charge. You should let the battery sit for 6-10 hours and remeasure. Then full charged is 12.6V.

As I was reminded recently, for $8 you can buy a hydrometer and eliminate all doubt as to it's condition.

That's not terribly unusual. You should be just fine!

I need to do the same, get my batteries out of this crazy weather we're having.
