Best battery for travel trailer
Just wondering what type of battery is recommended or best for a 25 foot travel trailer(2002 Flagstaff 25d)I'm fairly new to travel trailers and need to replace my battery this season. Thankyou.

Depends what type of camping you do. Do you always have electricity or do you dry camp? Some people like to have multiple batteries or use the 6v in series. I will have electricity when I cam so it is not really an issue for me. On my old camper I just replaced the battery that was in it with the same brand/type.

If you dry camp a lot (no hookups) get two 6 volt and connect them in series. If there is no room for two 6 volt then get the biggest 12 volt deep cycle that will fit in the carrier.
If you camp with hookups (electrical) most of the time then any full size 12 volt battery will do you, doesn't need to be deep cycle.

Measure the one you have now and the space it fits in.
If you post that information here we can determine the biggest size (physically) that will fit as well as the best value for the Amp Hours you can fit in that space.
Do NOT confuse CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) with Amp hours (AH). Any battery that lists CCA or brags about how many CCA it has is not what you want.
A battery listed as "Marine" or "Dual Purpose" is better, but still not what you want.
There are good quality "True Deep Cycle" 12 volt storage batteries (like Interstate and Trojan) that will serve your needs much better.

IMO if you always camp where you can plug in then a deep cycle battery is just a waste of money.

I agree that a true deep cycle is best even if you always camp with an electrical hookup. We lost power at a KOA one evening and the Deka Marine Master DP 31 battery died after about 3 hours. All we were running was several incandescent lights plus other minor loads like the fridge control board (we don't have an inverter). Granted that battery was probably 3-4 years old but it was an eye opener to see how inadequate that battery was for dry camping.

The Interstate that came on my Surveyor is still holding a full charge after 3 years. We always camp with full hookups.

Our group 24 Interstate lasted over 5 years. Replaced with the same.

I don't try to get the most of my battery. I feel after 3-4 years it is just a matter of time time that any battery will fail. So I go with a good cheaper battery I replace every 3 years. I buy the exide deep cycle for 70 bucks at menards. I have been doing this for years. I have never been camping and my battery failed.

Does anyone know how Interstate batteries (6V) compare to Trojan 105s? Costco has 6V golf cart batteries (interstate) on sale for $83. I've seen the 105s for $110 occasionally. Just trying to decide whether to go with 4 x 6V or 2 x12V G27 batteries. I will probably be 75% dry camp vs. 25% hookups.

While 6 vdc batts last longer, they can be difficult to find if one goes bad. You are now down to one 6 vdc batt and that does nothing for you. If you have a dual system of 6 vdc (4 batts series/parallel connected) you will be OK. You can delete one bank of series 6 vdc and get along. For me, 2 x 12 vdc is easier and you can find 12 vdc almost anywhere. Just my opinion.
