Can I shut 1 of the 2 A/C off and run 5er on 3100 watt genset?

Wildcat has 2 - 15k A/C and 50 amp service. I want to use a dogbone to adapt 50amp cord to Champion 3100 watt inverter genset. I need to make sure only one A/C can kick on. How do I shut one of the A/C off. I know not to use microwave, hairdryer or hot water on electric. This genset ran my 30amp travtrailer just fine so I know it can handle a single 15k unit. Advice appreciated. BTW a Lifan 5600 or Honda 7000is, though very nice and quiet, their 200# weight is just too heavy for me.

I'm just spitballing here.

Does your thermostat in your RV have zones? If so, can you turn off say zone 2, if that is the one your 2nd Air Conditioner is controlled by?

Most common thermostats owner manuals (that will explain the zones) can be found in the library tab at the top of each forum page. Once in the library, go to heating/cooling.

Forest River Forums - Downloads - Heating and Cooling

Also, are your air conditioners on dedicated circuits? If so, could you just turn the circuit breaker off to the 2nd air conditioner in your RV's electrical control panel (like the third breaker from the left in the pic below that is handwritten 2nd A/C)?

You should be able to turn them off by zone as WM said.

Assuming you can, yes you can run the unit on a 3100 genset and one AC at a time. You'll still need to monitor your use some, such as microwaving dinner while the AC is running might be pushing it, don't turn the electric WH element on, etc. With moderation though, yes the 3100 will work.

If you've not looked into it yet, check out getting the Honda/Yamaha 2000 watt units. You can parallel them to make 4000 watts, or use just one if you don't need AC. Best part, if weight is a concern, they're 49 pounds each.

Thanks for the great responses. I think the breaker idea is the easiest so I will try that first. I understand the zone option its just that futzing with temps we could accidentally enable no.2. That picture was a giant help. I already have the 85# Champion 3100 and its mounted on the rear in a GearDeck17.

I too have a 3100 watt generator with two AC units, one 15K and one 13.5K. The generator would handle the 13.5K unit but not the 15K unit. All of the other 120 Vac fixtures were off. When I tried to use just the 15K unit, the generator died.

I am betting your Wildcat will have a thermostat in the bedroom that operates that AC and a different one that services the living section.

Everyone that I have looked at with 2 ACs was set up that way.
