This is true but you will get less total amps and shorter batt life than using a pair as a bigger batt.

The reason is the pair will have a higher voltage during the discharge cycle , because less is taken from each.

This is to overcome the age difference of the batteries. The best solution is to get two of the same age batteries.

Oops I missed the " brand" question;
My responses were for age.
A battery switch is still a good idea used for years. By selecting one battery you know you always have a backup, but if you select both when they are weak you have nothing to switch too
