Champion generator comparison

Finally got to a race with my SIL and his toyhauler. We had our 25504s with 13.5k ac and an open frame Champion 4000/3500 model 46596. He has a 15k AC and a Champion 4000/3500 digital inverter hybrid model 100302. The first night, while waiting for the track to open the next day, we pulled out my generator and tried to use both AC units. Even with his ac up and running, all other breakers off in both campers, it would not start my ac even though I have a hard start capacitor. Almost but not quite. No surprise here. The next day(s) we ran careful tests with both generators. The result:
When he runs on ECO mode it takes about 1/2 gallon less gas than me when we filled up. When he runs in NON ECO mode, he uses almost 1/3 gallon more gas than me. This is to be expected because he is running a 15k ac vs my 13.5k and the engine is bigger on his generator. Sound levels:
I know that sound is an subjective thing. On Non eco mode he is still quieter than me at least to my untrained ear. The tone is lower in frequency and sounds less “noisy”. On ECO mode, with his AC running (that puts the generator a little over halfway between idle and full speed) he sounds about 1/2 as loud as my open frame unit. The only bad point that I can see is if you overload it on ECO mode it trips a breaker and you have to shut the generator off to reset it. The Inverter Hybrid is also much lighter than my unit. Jay

That hybrid model is nowhere near as quiet as a true inverter generator.

No it isn’t. But it is quite a bit quieter than my open frame unit of the same wattage. I would have liked to have a true Champion inverter generator in the 34-3500 watt range to compare the sound, but no one at the track had one. The secret to having a quiet inverter generator IMHO is to have it big enough so that it can put out the power you need with a minimum amount of “rev-up”. Another advantage of the Digital Inverter Hybrid is it’s large gas tank. Jay

champion states that his is 64dba compared to your 68dba noise level.

i figured his would use even less gas than that when in eco mode. the wattage difference between a 13 and 15k ac isnt that much. about 250 difference once running.

One thing to consider is the Inverter Hybrid has a 224cc engine and my open frame unit has a 196cc engine. My SILs toyhauler is 38 feet, while I am at25’. Maybe his AC ran more than mine overnight to cool a bigger area. Jay
