Charging System/Battery Question

I attempted to put out my hydraulic slide and the pump failed to operate. The trailer was connected to a 110v receptacle. I measured the voltage on both my 12 volt batteries while in the circuit and both registered slightly over 6 volts. I removed both batteries and put them on an external charger and within 20 minutes both were fully charged. I then hooked up one battery and the slide performed properly. I checked the output from my WFCO 8955 converter and there is no 12 volt output. With the batteries out of the circuit and connected to 110v the slide would not function.
What I would like to know is:
1. Should the slide have worked with no batteries connected and trailer connected to 110v.
2. What might have made both batteries register 6+ volts.
3. If both batteries were actually near fully charged what would cause the slide to fail to operate.

I don't believe that the slide will work without a battery source because it requires too much current. As for why you were reading 6V, maybe one of the batteries is bad? You said the slides worked fine with the one battery hooked up. Did you try it with the other battery hooked up? Jerry

Do you have a battery disconnect switch that might have been put in the wrong position causing the batteries not to charge?
