Cummins Onan RV QG 4000 over revving

Hi All,

I have an an Onan 4000 with only 8 hrs of running time on it. I'm far from a service location so trying to trouble shoot the issue on my own.

The first 8hrs ran great. Now it will only start and run if I manually manipulate the choke. While I do this, the generator keeps revving high even if I am barely keeping it running then dies as soon as I stop "choking" it.

Any ideas?
(governor? Limite screw? ....?

Thanks,
Greg

Might be bad gas.

Problem fixed

I was finally able to take the unit into a Cummins Onan Servicer. Luckily the unit is still new (<90 days). The shop pulled out the existing carb and put in a new one, all under warranty (i.e. $0). Apparently the dealer didn't run it enough and let the gas just sit there.. shame on them!

The generator now runs perfect, thanks to Industrial Equipment Repair (Sparks, NV)

And make sure for now on if you can only use gas that is ethanol free. That will save you some major headaches in the future. If you can not find ethanol free gas get a bottle of sea foam and add the entire bottle to your tank that the gen run off of.
