Guess we are expendable trade because we never got the 85db briefing in any manual.
I feel for you about the siren (and the radar gun exposure); hazards of the job I guess.

Do you remember those giant signs at the flight line perimeter that allows you to jack folks up during a "Helping Hand" -

"Use of Deadly Force Authorized By the Base Commander"?

Normally, close by, was a sign that said "Hearing Protection required beyond this point." Now that you mention it; I never did see a "Sky Cop" wearing ear plugs in the 33 years I flew for the Air Force.

And that same base commander generally crashed down on us for not wearing head dress in the vehicles or saluting officers when we pulled them over. I asked a Major one day if he wore his head dress in his ofice all day long and was told no... I responded with my car is my office...
Thats the last thing I recount.

We couldn't hear the squelch of the radio or the high tune of the radar alert if we wore ear plugs.
When I did my last hearing test they said my right ear lost more hearing than the left. I told the tester that its because I drive the truck. She looked puzzled??? and said why is that. I responded becasue my wife sits to my right hand side and is always talking...

Thats the last thing I recount....
