Disastrous Battery Box

I am in the process of adding a Trimetric Monitor to my Solera 24R and need help.

The battery box is in the entry step and is very crowded, The battery wires cross over and most of the water opening covers. The batteries are mounted so that those same openings are towards the back. Both of these problems will make it almost impossible to check and add water and more importantly to check the battery charge,

Has anyone had this situation? I am posting a photo of my battery box.

Has anyone re arranged the batteries and wires?

Appreciate any suggestions for making the water openings accessible and also suggestions on where to mount the Trimetric Monitor Shunt

So those are two 12V batteries in parallel. No way just rotating them 180 is gonna work but I suppose you can try it.

Shunt should go in that compartment someplace making sure you only have one side going to the battery and all other negs connected to the other side of the shunt (but you already know that). If you try to rearrange those batteries the solution to the shunt problem might present itself. I can't really tell where the wires are going to once they leave the batteries. It looks like there is a bit of space around them... Hopefully enough! You will probably need another black cable to connect to the shunt...

they are 12 volt batteries. Most of the red wires exit the battery box. one red and one black go thru 60 amp fuses or circuit breaker before exiting box. To the left of the box is a DC panel box and a battery disconnect for house DC.

I am contemplating going what you suggest. It seems logical that the battery water openings would be opposite from where they are.

Hthis whole install is absurd! In addition to blocking the water fill holes, the tie down stap goes from the box floor to the other side near the box floor. Even if I try to take the batteries out, I don't see how I can get a hand down the side to release the catch of the strap.

It looks like some of the cables could be shortened in order to clean up the installation. A local auto electric company should be able to shorten the cables for you. You can also shop for pre-made cables of the correct length.

You can wiggle the straps and wires enough to get the water caps off, FWIW. I have done it on our F 2401R set up just the same.
