Do I need another adapter ?

I believe my TT can use 50 or 30 amp service, I have a large plug and a standard size adapter plug that came with the camper, I was at a campground this past weekend that had a large plug mine fit and another large plug with a different prong pitch, there were two breakers one 30 over the one that fit mine and one 50 with the different pitch, do I need another plug end to use the 50? Thanks in advance

it sounds as if your trailer is wired for 30 amp. that seems to be the cord that you have. (three prongs for 30 amp, four for 50 amp). yes you can buy an adapter to connect your 30 amp cord to a 50 amp outlet. but you will still only be able to use 30 amps as that is what your trailer seems to be wired for. one way to check would be to go to the electrical control panel and see what size circuit breakers are installed on the main feed coming it. I would suspect they are 30 amp. thus they would trip as soon as you tried to use more than 30 amps even if you were plugged into a 50 amp outlet.

Your right tgank you ut is 30 amp, Ok that makes sense which leads me to another question, I remember setting up reservations where it stated 50 amp site, I plugged my supplied cord so does that mean they offered 30 amp as well? I didn't blow any breakers, and last question is the pigtail adapter that came with it to convert to a wall style outlet for 30 amp only? I just want to make sure I didn't accidentally use 50 amp service. Thanks

i'm not exactly sure what you are asking about the wall style outlet. most pedestals that supply 50 amps also have a 30 amp outlet and many also have a 20 amp outlet as well. the 50 amp outlet requires a 4 wire plug, the 30 amp outlet requires a 3 wire plug (in a triangular pattern), and the 20 amp outlet requires the traditional residential plug with the two flat prongs and a circular ground. you state that you have a 30 amp trailer. remember it has a 30 amp circuit breaker on the input side of its power distribution center. if you use an adapter to physically plug into the 50 amp pedestal outlet you will be able to use up to 30 amps before the 30 amp incoming circuit breakers in you trailer's power distribution center will trip. if you plug into the 30 amp outlet you will be able to use up to 30 amps before either the 30 amp circuit beaker on the pedestal OR the 30 amp beakers in the trailer power distribution center will trip. if you use an adapter and plug into a 20 amp outlet you will be able to use up to 20 amps before the 20 amp circuit breaker on the power pedestal will trip. bottom line is that you can only use as many amps as the LOWEST rated circuit breaker in the circuit will provide.

There are 3 general types of plugs/adatpers for your TT. As stated above, 30 and and 50 amp, I am assuming by you saying a "wall plug" you are referring to a common house hold plug of 110? There are adapters and pigtails for all of these plugs. You can put your 30 amp cord into a 50 amp dogbone/adapter and then plug that into a 50 amp pedestal. It will only draw 30 amps. Alternatively you an plug your 30 amp cord into a 110 adapter and plug into your house outlet. Your house outlet will only supply 110.

The correct voltage is 120v (110 is a common slang term for the same). Other than that when plugged into a household outlet (15amp), that is all that will be supplied to you, 15 amps. A 20 amp outlet will look like a common household outlet, but will have one prong sideways.

I misread my owners manual thinking it was 50 amp so I am good with what I have for 30 amp hookup, I only use the residential outlet dog bone for plugging in at home charging the battery and cooling the fridge before a trip, I gotta learn to read instructions, thanks for all the info

Do not use your air conditioner if you are only plugged into a standard house outlet. It can void the a/c warranty if it fails.

NOREASTRV, here are some good sites to read at your leisure to help familiarize yourself with many things electrical on the RV. I usually point these out to everyone just starting out in the forums.

The first link has many helpful things, including how to test all outlets as well as making plug and play testers. You should especially learn this, if you don't have a EMS (electrical management system) on your RV.

Your trailer has 30 amp service. They do make an adapter so you can use your plug into the 50 amp service plug but you will probably never need it. I have never seen a CG that had 50 amp service that did not have 30 amp service. Normally if they have 50 they also have 30 amp. There is no advantage to using a 50 amp service if you have a 30 amp plug to use, your trailer is only going to use 30 amps. As the name implies, it is an adapter and switches the wiring around so you could use a 50 amp plug if you had to.

It's rare, but it happens. I know youroo has posted pictures of one.

The strangest that I saw, a 30amp spot that didn't have a breaker for me to turn off first.

Turbs you have not been around much then. Lots of CG have only 30 and also only 50. Stayed at several this year so remember when making reservations ask for the service you want. Matter of fact our trip for this weekend to Darlington CG we had to ask for 50 as that is what we have. Later RJD

One advantage to using a 50amp socket with a 30amp rig, is the 50amp socket is usually not as worn out as the 30amps. I've seen some that couldn't even hold a plug in.
