Even tho you may want to DO NOT make it shut off with a battery disconnect switch!

Last week ms Amy asked jonalyn our 19 yo daughter to go to the camper and shut off the fridge and unload it, which she did.
Hours later I came home to hear the loudest beeping I've ever heard coming from the camper.
When I opened the door I was totally overcome with propane fumes.[emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]

While unloading the fridge she bumped not one but two stove burner knob turning them on when she exited!

Now had the propane detector been turned off via a disconnect and I had turned it on it could have been disastrous!
About 30 lbs of propane had filled the camper.

FYI I'm still here to tell you about it.

I wasn't concerned at first but when I thought about it i was omg that could have been very very bad!

WOW. That is why I hate to hear it called a low voltage alarm when it is really a "your propane detector is not functional alarm".

I did this same thing. Of course we are supposed to turn off the propane at the tank but it is any easy thing to forget. Also turn off your propane grill at the tank when not in use. Not only could you bump the burner valves open but small children could play with them.

So glad you're okay, Turbs! No one needs a leveled RV and, especially, loss of life! This is a super reminder that these are put in RVs for a reason!

oh maybe 6-7 years ago i was down by the lake with the kids and kept hearing a beeping alarm and just thought "come on neighbor, turn that off its annoying". As i came up from the lake towards the camper i noticed it was coming from mine. This was one of the first trips with a TT after years of having a old pop up and i was still learning. Same thing as you mentioned, instant breath of propane due to stove being on.

I will never forget the fact i had no idea what the alarm was and REALLY glad i tossed the cigarette butt in the fire pit before opening that door.

All too often safety devices of all types get bypassed, overlooked, taken off, there are important reasons things are made and there as they come from the factory.

All to often we tend to think it can't happen to me but the plain fact is it can and does......... and we go on the defensive to justify why we do the things we do.........

The propane detector in my 2011 Georgetown 327DS is also hooked to a solenoid valve in the gas line at the propane tank. If the detector goes into "alarm" mode, it shuts off the propane at the tank.

At the recommendation of an RV technician, I installed an SPST switch in that line which gives me a mechanism to turn off the propane at the tank from inside the RV. With the switch off, there's no propane in the lines once they leave the tank area and the solenoid doesn't draw 12V power from the house batteries. After I burned out two internally lit switches, I wired an LED into the circuit to let me know when the solenoid was powered.

If you simply turn of your gas bottles when you turn off your battery, this would not be a problem.

Might as well remove your battery disconnect switch, then. Leaving the CO/propane detector on will still kill the battery. Especially if you're like me and have to store it in a storage lot.

This is one of the reasons we have always used a checklist. It’s too darn easy to forget something important, especially when you have to keep the RV on a storage lot the way we do. Regardless, mistakes can still happen.
