Electrical Connection Exposed

Following recommendations, I bought a surge protector-the kind that plugs into the campground outlet and hangs down. Now the connection between my 30 amp cord and the surge protector hangs below the cover and is exposed to rain. Should I protect this connection and if so, how?

I used a 30 amp extension cord from the pedestal to the EMS and plugged the trailer umbilical into the EMS, I locked it to the frame of the steps under the trailer. Kept it out of sight and the elements.

I use one for my 50 amp hook up and has not been an issue for several years with torrential downpours. They're made to be installed that way and not create issues.
