New guy here and trying to figure why I would need to have 2 batteries on my TT. What are the advantages??

Well, none really if you always use campgrounds with electric.
If you plan on dry camping for more than an overnight somewhere, you will find the extra capacity to be worth the extra hundred bucks for the battery.

I agree with Herk7769. IT's just how you camp. IF you plan on dry camping you may want two high capacity batteries If you go for two day or long. Winter the furnace draws & in the summer you will need to keep that refig. going.

Others have stated the truth. Would help to know how you are planning to camp. One night with the furnace, refer, and other stuff, with no electric equals one dead battery at 4:00 a.m. And in case you don't know, that is the near the coldest part of the morning.
if you always camp with electric hookups, then there's really no advantage.
if you plan to or might dry camp, then it's a huge advantage.
by the way, dry camping is camping at a campground that has no hookups campsites.
out here in Calif., 99% of the state park campsites have no hookups, so having 2 batteries is a must for a HTT.
