F150 not recognizing electric jack
So the new truck, 2013 f150, somehow isn't recognizing the jack. Plugged the jack in, nothing. Plugged the jack into the old truck, and jack works fine. So....any ideas?

The jack is a Trailer Star brand.

Does the new truck have the fuse or relay install for BATT charging through the 7 way plug?
My old truck did not come from the factory with them installed. Just an idea.

Do you have 12 volts at the 7way plug and a good ground on the new truck?

Look in your glove box for a fuse. Also read owners manual about trailer tow or trailering. Most Gm and ford trucks will need need a fuse installed for trailer brakes and or trailer power. Some with the tow package will include the fuse in the glove box or behind the rear seat.

You have a blown fuse in your truck. I had the same thing on my f250. Look at the schematic in your owners manual and find the fuse that powers the 7 pin.

I plugged the trailer itself (different plug from jack) into new truck, and the lights on the trailer work, so I'm assuming the truck plug is working fine. Have also used with horse trailer, and worked fine.

If the fuse was blown, I assume the lights on the trailer wouldn't work, correct?

I also pressed the red button (reset?) on the electric jack itself, to see if it would change anything, and it did not.
With the jack plugged in, I turned the truck off, and on again, to see if it would recognize the jack...nothing.
In the options area on the truck, I named the jack, hoping it would recognize it, and nothing.

Im guessing your power wire on your truck is missing the fuse. I can look monday when I get to work and tell you where it should be exactly.
Does your electric jack not work off your house battery? I've never had a tt so I don't know. On 5ers the jacks are powered by the trailer battery.

This particular jack doesn't have a separate wire to use off of a house battery. There is only a cord for the truck. (I'm not thrilled with the way the jack is set up to run like that, but am living with it, until it dies)

If everything else works on the trailer, suggest having the jack wired to the trailer battery. That is a less than stellar idea to have to be plugged into the truck to work the jack.

Ok, after Hubby did some checking on the net, we found it! It was fuses 9 & 21 were not plugged into the truck! We found them in a plastic Baggie in the glove box! Plugged the fuses into truck, and now the jack works! Woohoo!!

Good deal! I've seen tons of those in trucks I've worked on and had to install a few fuses for others with trailer wire issues.
