Turned on furnace at thermostat, slide temp dial to warmer temp and as soon as it clicks to activate the 15 amp fuse blows. Anybody else experience this? What did it turn out to be? Any suggestions?

another shameless plug for RV type and Furnace type like Dan said.
a possible solution to your problem which is an electrical issue - sounds like you have a (+) Positive wire touching (-) ground causing the fuse to blow
if you can pull the furnace out and look at the wires I bet one of the wires is maybe melted together or check your wires at the thermostat and see if you have any wires touching together.
if neither of those work then you will need to try and trace out the wires but my guess is that one of the wires is shorting to ground causing it to blow the fuse.

I'll go with sherdep suggestion. When they do the manufacturing they don't always do a great job of insulating or making sure the wiring won't rub or chaff against something. After a period of time the wires make contact with a ground and there goes the fuse. With no power applied, use an ohmmeter to check for a grounded condition.
