Generator Question

While dry camping recently, we would need to run our Honda 2000 generator. Often times the generator would run a very high RPM's and then idle down to a normal RPM. I don't remember this happening last year. What would cause the generator to rev up and stay at those high RPM's for 15-20 minutes or more during a 2-3 hour generating period. I have a 2012 Flagstaff RLS wth two batteries with a marine switch. The batteries were not run down very low. I would just charge most days to keep up the charge.

Thanks

I am guessing but check your fridge's climate control setting.

If the fridge heater is turning on, the power draw will increase RPMs on your generator when it is in ECON mode.

Depends on your make and model.

My Dometic has a switch in the freezer compartment.

For newer models without the switch the procedure to shut it off is in this manual.

Did you have the water heater turned off? The last trip out I forgot to,turnoff the water hear, it took me a while to determine what was causing such a load on the Honda 2000.

Sometimes we forget the simple causes.
This will definitely ramp that generator right up; no doubt about it.
