Generator Recommendations

I'm looking into a generator for my Forest River Heritage Glen 302Fk for use when no external power is available. What are your recommendations.

You are going to get a 101 different answers here , it all depends how much you want to spend and loud of a gen you want. My opinion is ( and its my opinion ) if you can afford it go with either a Honda or Yamaha, the size with depend on what you want to run. Good luck and wait for all the different answers.

I have a storm chaser 5500 that in my opinion is way to big and way to heavy to mount on the rear of the TT. Looking for something a little smaller but will run appliances.

To the OP.

1. How often will you use this each year?

2. What appliances do you plan to run with this?

Both the Honda and Yamaha in the 2000 watt range will handle most of the power required with very little noise. I got two Yamaha 2000si and the paralleling cable, they work great and are quite and use very little fuel. Honda and yamaha are both $$$

I posted the links to the power house and the Honda 2001 above both have the same watts, the Honda weighs less than 46 lbs the powerhouse weighs 86 lbs. think I'll spend the extra 300 and get the lighter Honda

It normally comes down to this:

1. Do you want to run the a/c?
2. Do you want quiet or cheap? Can't have both.
3. Will you be in a campground with others or out in the boonies where there isn't anyone to bother with a noisy generator?

Check your local craigslist. Mine always has two or three Honda 2000's about 300 less than retail.

Hell, two people are selling companions in my area for 850- 400$ off

OK gang.....rather than re-opening older past post regarding this topic and aside from recommendations/suggestions on the OP's post, I'm interested in specific input/comparison between the Honda EU3000iS and the Powerhouse PH3100Ri. Besides the price difference and the fact that the PH3100Ri has a remote start, I'm looking for reliability comparison, side by side noise comparison, cleanliness of power output etc.
Not that I'm asking for much.

Anybody compared these or been able to compare yours to a friends other brand.........Thanks

Powerhouse Noise Level . (Zero Load / Full Load) 56 / 65 dB

Honda Noise Level (1/4 load/rated load) 49 dB/ 58 dB

That is a big difference especially in a public campground.

Saw those specs too Bob. Just wondering if anyone had actual "real world" side by side experience.

I may just do that, plenty of room in the bed.... the 5500 has a enough to power everything in the TT. I'll just work on muffling it down a bit!

Most generators like that,will still be noisy because it's coming from the motor, not the muffler.

The Yamaha EF2000isV2 has a higher EPA rating than either the Honda or the Champion.
Basically, engine life rating. Getting two and running them in parallel makes them easier to transport and handle. One will run most everything with headroom. Two will run the AC\heat, as well. I just went through this exercise a while back. My review is in the appropriate section of this forum, if you want more details. The Yamaha also allows you to shut off the fuel so you can run the engine dry. This is important with most fuels containing some ethanol. Not good for your carb if it sits with this fuel in the carb. Also has a fuel gauge. Not critical, but nice to have.

Inverter generators will give you the cleanest power for TVs, AV equipment, computers, etc. And, if you want to be a good neighbor, the added cost will earn you bonus points in the campground.
