GLobal Electric Ceiling fan help
Gf has been cleaning the carpets and furniture in the Villa and they high moisture = foggy windows and damp chairs etc. So i suggested turning on the ceiling fan. well hit the switch yet nothing. Anyone know what to do? thinking I should pop out the control switch and take a look. It is a 12v fan, and i do have the papers for it. All it suggests is to "pack the fan in a box and mail it back with proof of purchase and a money order for $13 for return shipping"...
fan:
switch

If you have not used it in a while, I would give the fan a "push" and see if that starts it going. If it has been working, then check the fuse (it is 12 volt DC) If you don't see it in the power box, do not assume that there isn't one. My camper has three pigtail fuses BEHIND the power converter. I believe one of them was for my ceiling fan. NONE were labeled.

If giving it a helping heand does not work, pop the switch cover and put a meter on it, simple electric light one will work, (need instructions let us know) at least then you can determine if the issue is north to the fan and motor, or south to the power converter. If it is north to the fan then you can drop the fan and test there to eliminate the wires and check the connections before you ship it anywhere. If there is no power at the switch then you have to work back to the power converter checking the pigtails.

Herk: i checked the fuse box, nothing labled for the fan, lots of slots left but ill see about checking behind it.
Lucy: thinking thats best bet is to pop the cover and take a look. I tried spinning it and it goes freely with or with out the switch "on"
I do have the papers for it (lucky me!) with the wiring diagrams to!

Is it like a house-type ceiling fan - i.e. with a pull chain switch on the fan itself, as well as the wall switch ? If so, the switch at the fan may be in "Off" position. Just a thought.

its a 12v fan. no controls on the fan. My father stopped by with a mulit meter - FINALLY lol . so the switch has power going in, nothing out. we jumped the + to + and the fan went and sounded normal. so now i need to find a new fan switch. apparently its a common thing?

why not try a little WD40 and work the switch. it may get u going until u can replace it. i would spray abt 1 sec. (u could remove the switch and really get after it just wouldn't saturate it in place).

i'd start at radio shack. after that, i would go to an electronic supply house. if that fails, write the fan manufacturer

Well tried radio shack today, tried menards, tried a couple RV dealers in Minot, ND today. Notta. no one seemed to know what i was talking about and thought i was from another planet. Guess I gotta get ahold of them and ask for a replacement.

Not mentioned; but I can see it in mine; is styrofoam.
My housing is full of it.
Mine runs fine, but a bit in the wrong place could stop it from starting for sure.

Well, you would think so; wouldn't you. However the chunks are too big to fit through the slots in the fan housing. Holding that project for when I can take the fan down. (Back home from Florida where we need it).

It was the wall switch he banged Herk, not the fan.

Yes, I got that part. Sometimes "flicking" the on off switch will start a stalled motor. I was trying to think of what might have stalled it.
Replacing the switch should fix his issue if it is broken internally.
