Green Mountain Grill (GMG)--- Electrical Question

I posted this on the cooking forum but thought maybe it was more of an electrical question so I'm reposting it here. Hope that's ok.

The GMG (Davey Crockett model) can be powered by plugging into a 110 volt (using an AC/DC adapter) wall outlet but I understand that it pulls up to 60 amps to get started. Since my TT is 30 amp, I assume that I cannot plug into the outlet on the camper since it will probably blow a breaker? What about the 110 volt outlet at the campsite?

It also runs with a 12 volt battery so I guess I can use the trailer battery to run the grill or even use my vehicle since it will also plug into the cigarette lighter. Will running it on the TT battery cause any kind of issue?

I know nothing about the grill you mention but no 110v wall outlet is rated for 60 amps. That has to be a mistake.

Something is goofy with your load amp ratings. If it could draw 60 amps of AC current that would translate to 600 amps of DC current during startup. Looking at pics of the assemblies looks like a 15 amp supply cord maybe 6 amps of startup?
The DC components are much smaller and may draw 5-10 amps current. Guessing here cause I couldn't find specs. No house current appliance draws 60 amps at 115 VAC, would be a 220 volt application.

I'm obviously not electrically inclined and probably off base with the 60 amps after reading your posts but I thought that's what I heard the dealer representative say that we purchased it from. It runs on 12 volts so when plugged into a standard outlet it needs an AC/DC adapter. Here is what the manual says (Sorry not sure how to show the picture that goes with the words):


You can power your grill three different ways: 1) plug one end of the vehicle adapter (A) into the back of the grill and the other into a vehicle’s lighter/cell phone connector; OR 2) connect A and B, and plug the adapter end into the back of the grill and connect the alligator clips to a 12-volt battery (red to positive, back to negative); OR 3) plug C into D and A into D and plug C into a 110-volt wall outlet and the adapter (A) into the back of the grill.

I plug my Traeger into the electrical pedestal at the campsite. Mainly to keep the smoke away from the camper.

I have the same grill and used it three times while we were in quartzite. You will not have any trouble plugging it into you Rv outlet. Did not use the 12 volt option. By the way, I love the grill, but my temp is off about 75 degrees. Put on another temp gauge and have it dialed in.

If it used 60 amps it would grill a burger in about 30 seconds. 60 amps x 120 volts will give you about 7200 watts. That's one really hot grill! LOL

Googling GMG, their website shows the Davy Crockett draws 100 Watts@12V, this is about 8 Amps on 12V. The corresponding current drawn on 120VAC by your adapter will be less than 1 Amp.

Hard to find the correct specs online esp. for AC but it's rated 12V/100 watts which is ~8 amps of DC power and the equivalent would be < 1 amp AC. It's designed for household use so should work fine in any 15 amp home or RV plug socket.
