Height of Power Supply Box

I have run 50 amp service (50' 6/3 w/ground in conduit) to the place on my inside garage wall where it will exit to the outside. Our new 5th wheel will be here next March, and since this is our first RV of any kind I don't know if there is a standard height for the power box or to just go with a comfortable height.

I don't Think there is a proper or code height. There are ADA requirements but they seldom apply in a residential setting. I would put it where it is convenient, say 4' or so.

IMO, it is best to pull a permit, have a licensed electrician do the work and get it inspected.
Codes are laws and are for everyone's protection.

Think it's too late for that, he's already run the wires and is just mounting the box. I would say mount it from 3'-4' above ground as previously suggested. Make d@#$ sure it's not wired wrong otherwise you will be buying a lot of new stuff for inside the camper.

i would say at the same height as your other electrical outlets in the garage. and put the outlet in a weather resistant box (or whatever the proper term for enclosed outlet box is).

THAT is precisely the reason that it should be done by a licensed professional according to code when applicable.

If there is ever a problem with the house wiring or RV wiring and an inspector of any kind finds out that Joe HandyMan is involved dude may be SOL!! for coverage or reimbursement or...

We've seen licensed professionals do it exactly wrong for an rv. There are plenty of DIYers that have the knowledge to do it. Seen several city inspectors in my time that were figure heads only and didn't know squat about their jobs. Had our house re-wired in Moline, IL and the contractor had to explain the code to the inspector.

I will stand my ground on this.
If a licensed contractor pulls a permit and does a job and the inspector signs it off and then there is a problem of any kind relating to the install, then the damages or troubles, if there are ever any, will NOT fall on the shoulders of the customer.

In Hillsboro, Oregon we are required to pull a permit and have an inspection done if a light switch or outlet is replaced or installed in a home.
It is not because the city wants money. It is because house fires kill people.

I am a Steamfitter with a Class 5 Boiler license.
We don't run 600 lbs of steam through schedule 40 pipe.
We don't pipe relief valves directly in to drain lines.
We don't put a plug in a water heater relief valve because it drips.

Don't disagree, but if you think the contractor or inspector will be held liable you are sadly mistaken. The homeowner will still be left holding the bag. Understand completely why permits are required, but sometimes they are totally ridiculous and a majority of the time it is strictly a political bargain. But that's not for this forum. Outa here.

Guys, calm down. I didn't mean to start all this in fighting.

All I have done is ran the wire through 1" conduit and then attached the conduit in place. No need to pay union rates for something I can do. I will install the receptacle box and wire that tomorrow. It's not hard to follow directions, but I want no part of our 400 amp. main service box. Electrician has already been scheduled.
