Help save our camping trip and possibly my marriage

I am the tinkerer in our marriage, not DH. Since we've gotten our Roo its been me who wired the stair lights and the wine rack over the fridge, and numerous other upgrades. Some have gotten my husband's blessing, and some he has not been thrilled about. My latest foray was into wiring a hard wired backup camera. This was definitely something he thought was a waste of time. So in true sneaky fashion, yesterday when he was out I attempted to wire the camera to the rear running light. Somewhere in the midst of attaching the power and the ground leads from the camera, I noticed that the running lights on the camper were out. Maybe I shouldn't have had the lights connected from out TV while I was doing this. Sigh, hindsight and all that. So now I can't figure out what I did wrong and how to fix it. Everythig on the TV seem to be working, so I don't think its a fuse on the TV. I checked the fuse center in our Roo and they all seem fine. There's also an in-line 30 amp fuse near the battery that I checked. Is there another fuse I haven't found? Now he wants to go camp this weekend at our local campground and I am panicked that I won't at least have the running lights fixed. And no, I haven't fessed up. I'm hoping to have corrected my error and him be none the wiser.

Most likely the fuse in the truck is blown.

The easiest way to check the trailer lights is to jump the Vcc pin #4 on the bargeman plug to each of the lights (use a 10 amp fuse for safety). Do this with the truck disconnected and using the trailer's battery.

Check your trucks manual for the fuse locations for the trailer line fuses.
NOTE - EACH pin has its own fuse in the truck fuse block.

Again, I think it is the truck's fuse that is blown.

What model truck do you have?

This may help??If you have a volt meter,check your plug from the TV to the camper.You may have blown a fuse and haven't found it.Some trucks have a seperate fuse panel for the wiring.Good luck.

It's a 2004 Durango. I do have a voltmeter. How do I check the 7 pin plug? I am a bit of a dolt when it comes to electrical, in case you can't tell.

Most tow ready vehicles have separate fuses for the trailer lighting. Get your manual out and find the fuses for the trailer. On some vehicles it is in a separate fuse block from the TV fuses. There should be one for the running lights, turn signals, 12V aux and trailer brake. You didn't say what TV make was.

Technical Car Experts Answers everything you need: 2004 Dodge Durango fuse box diagram?BTW the fuse cover is missing on the fuse box under the dash. I did find this info, but like I said, I'm pretty helpless when it comes to electrical. Maybe soeone can tell me which fuse it might be?

Put the voltmeter on the 20 volts DC scale.

Turn on the hazard lights and the parking lights on the truck.

Open the port that the trailer plug fits in.

The "Ground" is pin 1 (Lower left pin) - put the black lead on this one.

The Running lights are pin 3 - upper left of the "key" - should have 13 volts with truck running or key "on".

That diagram is not the one you need. Do you have your Durango's manual?

Yes provided it is not too large. 10.6 Meg max size.

You can also post photos (or screen snips) of the fuse block pages in your manual.

I may be able to download it and do it myself if it is too large.

Herk's recommendation for checking the trailer wiring & lights is as good as it gets. When I asked what TV I should have also asked if it has an integrated towing package or an add-on tail light converter. Many add-on types have fuses at the converter box, or as DaveandSue posted, there may be more than one fuse panel and fuses for just the trailer light circuits (check owners manual).
*I checked the owners manual (it stinks), does not show any diagrams of fuse blocks. There are two, one in the engine compartment and another behind the kick panel/drivers side/near the emergency brake pedal.

It does have the factory tow package, if that helps. I do have the service manual electronic version. I am trying to figure out how to copy the tow wiring schematics.

Okay, so looks like the fuses I need to check are under the hood. It is pretty dark outside, I think I'd better wait until tomorrow to check those.

Also check behind the left kick panel (behind the parking brake).

The fuses are labeled by a sticker on the panel.

The TV fuses are usually under the hood, The trailer fuses are usually in a secondary fuse block like the one posted above by drivers left foot. Remove the cover, It should have a fuse diagram printed on it. Check trlr fuses. Should be directional. stop, and running light fuses. Pull the one you suspect out you should be able to see that it is blown as the link near the flat portion of the fuse will be missing.
