Hot Battery
I have 12 volt batterys run together in parallel. While charging using the coach converter/charger one of the batteries is getting hot and I can hear it bubbling. The other batteries are cool to the touch. All connections are clean.
What's going on? Overcharge? Bad battery?

Probably a bad battery. Are they all the same age? Are they all rated the same. They need to be rated at the same cranking amperage or the inverter will keep charging the smaller battery to bring it up to the larger rated battery which it will never get to.

The newest of the three identical batteries (140AH) is the one getting hot. It could have been defective from the get-go, I just never checked them before. Could be why battery life is less than I had projected.

Newest of the three identical batteries......Post #2, "are they all the same age?" You can't replace just one at a time. Will always cause problems. Same thing with golf cart batteries. It is all or none.

A warm battery that is bubbling is not necessarily bad.
You might have to get a battery post disconnect switch and shut
it off when it gets warm and let the others charge.

if u can disconnect that one battery and let the others charge, i would, then check the voltage on it abt an hour later.
i'm thinking the voltage will be down around 10v or less when u do. i'm betting that it is a bad battery also.
i go thru this with my truck every 4 yrs or so. batteries drag down while sitting over night. when i charge them, one will usually be hot. when checked, that one will be bad. unfortunately, when that happens the one that was good that wasn't changed, starts doing the same thing abt 6 mos later. if i replace it as soon as i notice problems, it doesn't appear affect the new one.
the single battery in the travel trailer will get hot while charging when it goes bad.
just tried (yesterday) to charge a battery for a UPS. after 1 day it was hot. checked voltage and it was 1.9V.
