I know, I know, but.... I have to ask.

I was given a brand new battery and I am hoping you will give me some advice as to whether this is a good battery to use on an RV. Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

it has a 3 out of 5-star rating on Amazon for it's intended use.

After reading all the reviews, Hell No! No amp rating that I could see. At least the price was good. Run Forest, run...

I do it the other way around...I take my few year old trailer battery and put it on the sump pump and the trailer gets a new battery. These are pretty much like deep cycle batteries but they typically take a slow charge and rarely take a load. I am not sure what the size is because they only give a runtime based on their pump which I did not look up current draw for.

They are wet but ship dry and require you add distilled water and it appears you buy the acid seperately as well. This means you can easily mess up the chemical composition which from the reviews appears to be problematic for most folks and even one chemist in the reviews.

Could you use it yes. Would I, not likely. I am not sure how long it would last and for less than the price listed you can find a closed system battery with 105AH deep cycle battery or one shipped wet that you can maintain if that is your desire.

There are several good battery threads available on the forum that debate the best battery to use.

If money is not an issue you could consider lithium or even two 6v golf cart batteries or stick with one or 2 12v deep cycle batteries all depending on you intended use.

For regular use with hook ups any deep cycle battery would do. If I were to start over I would not do it with a dry battery unless you really know what you are doing.

Sell it on eBay as unopened box and buy what you need with the money plus a little more.

It is a 105 AH deep cycle battery, it should work for you as long as you are not planning on boon docking with no hook ups.

It's probably as good or better than what the RV dealers install in trailers. I would have no problems with using that battery. Especially since you say it is new and it was free.

These batteries are great.I use em at home all the time.Purchasing acid is easy.buy it from autozone.and fill it up, no mixing.after your first fill with acid then when using if the level is down you use water only (some use distilled).

If you already have a battery, and if you boondock now and then, consider toting this one as a second battery. Charge it fully and keep it charged when out of service. Throw it in your storage bay when you plan to boondock. If your main battery is depleted, swap in the spare...like a tank of propane. You can always charge one from your generator while the other is in service.
Just a thought.

I have had mine hooked up to my back up sump since hurricane sandy in
2012. It saved my butt twice. I have since had an 11000 watt whole house generator installed. with two sump pumps and three power sources, I have nothing to worry about.

You got a 140 amp/hour battery for FREE??? Probably not as good as a Trojan, but it should do nicely for many years if you aren't boon docking for extended periods. Just keep it topped up with distilled water once it is filled with acid...

Thanks everyone. I told the husband I did not think it was a good choice but he wanted other opinions.

Duracell makes a replacement of the same battery and it is rated at 105 AH.

The one posted weighs 36 lbs and the Duracell weighs 59 lbs.

I kind of doubt the one posted is a 140 AH.

Ask yourself “What have I got to loose if this battery doesn’t perform the way I want it to?”. If it works for you, great. If you don’t don’t want to take a chance, get another battery.

The instruction manual states you will need to fill it with six (6) quarts of 1.265 specific gravity battery acid. When using the battery, if the solution level goes down then you replenish it with distilled water.

That battery holds a gallon and a half of acid? Wow! That must be one huge battery.

My gut feeling is it'll be fine unless you boondock a lot. Sump pump back up batteries are designed and meant to be trickle charged all the time and actually used occasionally.
