If your considering Solar now might be the time

Business News
Solar Prices Crash
On June 1, China pulled the plug on global demand by eliminating about 20 GW of expected domestic installations this year, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. That will reduce global prices 35 percent, to 24 cents a watt by yearend.

Crap! I just purchased a 100W 'starter' RV kit (w/ 'suitcase' panel) from Renogy about a month ago.

Oh, well...at least the future addn'l panels I was planning on getting will be cheaper...

Most rv's will qualify as a second home. As such, it will qualify for remaining credits. Your taxes may vary.

Under the new tax guidelines that are in effect for 2018, RV's no longer qualify as second homes. You can not deduct the interest as a second mortgage. You may be able to qualify it if it is used for business purposes, but you have to have a valid business license. There is a lot more about RV's, but you will have to read the new tax codes.

Villagerjim, I had initially heard that a MOTORHOME would qualify but, a TRAILER would not. Do you know if that has changed?

I found an article related to solar tax credits for RVs:

https://tax-queen.com/residential-en...credits-solar/

As for whether TTs count as a second home - what I've read is that the loan interest deduction no longer applies to towables. This is because the standard deductions are going up so much that most taxpayers with a towable will get a break, anyway. That doesn't necessarily rule out the solar tax credit, though!

The tax credit falls under a different part of the tax law and TTs have been considered a 2nd home under that law. I didn't see anything in the tax law specifically stating that TTs were no longer 2nd homes, only that they can't take the loan interest deduction.

Solar Credits include the Inverter, Batteries and Labor not just the Solar Panels. They are all part of a complete Solar install. Use IRS Form 5695.

I also found this on TurboTax website.
TurboTax Online: "We ordered and took delivery of a new 2017 motorhome in 2017, and specified solar planels. Is the cost of the solar panel option on our motorhome deductible?"

Another reference:
"What types of solar electric systems qualify for the 30% Federal Tax Credit?*
ANY complete solar power package, for home or business.
Emergency battery backup system, as long as the purchase includes at least one solar panel.
Product purchases that expand your existing solar power system and include at least one solar panel.
Solar System for RV and boat that has been accepted by the IRS as a second home for tax purposes.**
