Inverter Installation design question

Hello all

New Memeber just bought a Coachmen 28qb ltd, I also own a sailboat and am used to having 120 volt power to some of my outlets through an inverter w/o needing to cranking the generator or plug into shore power. The unit appears to have a decendt charger through the converter so would not want to add an inverter/charger. Looking at a Xantrex Pro Series XM 1800 MSW inverter. This unit has a built in transfer switch and the way I understand it I could wire one of the 120 volt branch circuits through it and when shorepower or generator was producing power it would pass through, and when they were not the inverter would kick in.

I would like to power the 120 volt recepticals AND the microwave. I know the microwave could not be run for long without killing the batteries, but its nice to be able to reheat something or pop some popcorn without running the generator.

Would I have to add a subpanel and feed these two cicuits through it or could I run the two circuits into and out of the inverter? Any other advice on this?

I have 2 deep cycle batteries with a total of 280 RC.

I'm not an electrician, but I would run the inverter to a sub panel, then add the circuits that you want only on the converter to the sub panel. I think that is a much safer way to do it.

unfortunately, from what i've read, 2 batteries won't be enough to run the MW.
even with that inverter.
i just installed a small 400w inverter by tapping directly into the batteries. since it has its own fuse and switch and the spot i'm mounting it to, is closer to the batteries than the converter panel.
