Killer Find!
So, I have to share this because I am super stoked. For a couple seasons now I have been debating on getting a small watt generator. I have the 3800 propane we use to run everything in the TT, but I wanted something for those times that I only need to charge the batteries and have a few lights on. I looked back and forth at the HF 800 watt gen, but was on the fence based on reviews and Internet research. Other generators around the 1k range were way overpriced for my needs or generic junk.
Here's my find. I was doing my 'sneak out of the house before everyone gets up estate sale treasure hunt' yesterday when I came across a super cob webby and dusty Kawasaki engine poking its head out between some packing boxes. As I pulled it out to look, I saw is was an old Dayton 900w gen. The gentleman came over, told me he had no idea what it was and that I would be doing him a favor by taking it off his hands for $5. Deal done! This thing was cosmetically perfect under the storage grime.
I took it to the workshop, drained the now dark brown fuel from the tank. A couple shots of ether And a few pulls and she popped to life. Hope! I tore it down and cleaned all the parts in the pulse style carb and moving parts, some fresh oil, and a check of the electrical, she was put back together.
Primed the carb with a tip of the gen on its side and she fired up with some fresh fuel. Running like new out of the box! Not bad for a 30+ yo machine that sat for at least 20. The best $5 I have spent in a long time + 3 hours tinkering. The tank has sledge, so I'm soaking that with vinegar for a couple days, rinse and repeat, should get her clean.
