LED brightness

I know this comes up a lot but I don't quite understand how to compare the new LED's to a standard incandescent. Looking to replace ceiling fixture bulbs.

Found these on ebay and thinking they may not be good for the price.

Any input here is appreciated. Thanks.

They are only 100 lumens. Not very bright. You should look for a minimum of 200 lumens and more is even better. If you are looking for a LED to read by you will need to be up in the 400 to 500 lumen range. Don't be confused by the number of LEDs on the lamp because some times fewer LEDs produce a brighter light. If you plan to replace halogens with LEDs make sure you have the right base. The ones you show are a "wedge" base. I would imagine your rig also has lamps with "bayonet" base that is a twist and lock. Two styles for that also, horizontally opposed pins and horizontally offset opposed pins.

The short message is look for how many lumens it has. Some rate it by watts and I am not into that comparison. I'm sure there is a chart to cross reference them also.

Last, there are different colors. All white lamps are not necessarily white. There is cool white and warm light and other colors in between. Without a little research I can't tell you the difference in color but believe me there IS a difference. Some may have a slight blue tint which may be objectionable or maybe not.

Shop around on Ebay and be patient. You will find the same LEDs for vastly different prices. Check their feedback also. I like to have feedback to be north of 95 and check what kind of negative feedback they get.

Thank you for the helpful info. I will certainly shop around. There are way to many out there. I,ve also been told there are some that go at a 6000k rating that would be bright. Might look at some of those. Thanks.

I'm a fan of lumens too. Tell me what light it puts out at what voltage spec, watts refers to actual power consumed, but comparing an LED to an incandescent with watts is impossible, if watts are stated it's usually an estimate in the "This is equal output to a 100 watt bulb"

I found on google you can type in the bulb you wish to replace and usually you can find out what that incandescent puts out, then you can find an LED to match.

Amazon.com: GRV T10 Wedge 921 194 25-3528 SMD LED Bulb lamp Super Bright Warm White DC 12V Pack of 10: Automotive
I got these and am really happy with them. About equal in brightness to original bulbs and same "whiteness". Not the blue hue that some LEDs have.

That is not a bad price for 10 pieces, about $2.70 each. I might add one thing about wedge base LED's. They DO have polarity so if they don't work when you plug it in just turn it over, 180 degrees. I replaced all the marker lights on my old TT with LED's. I had a couple spares but don't know where I put them to remember how many LEDs were on it. I do know I checked the length and the ones I got just barely went under the lens but worked great. They look similar to what you got.

I just did the LED upgrade to my trailer this last weekend. I found the ones in the link below. Not too pricey did my whole trailer for about $60. Let me tell you, I was kinda worried about ordering a crap product, but no disappointment here.

6000K leds will be like looking into the sun. I would back off to a 3500K to 4500K that is more like a normal cw lamp. Here is a chart to help you https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF...ml%3B400%3B415

It also depends alot on how much light each person likes.. Some need to have it super bright.. Personally, we have really bright LEDs in the bathroom, above the sink and above the table.. We might change one more in the bedroom too.. Otherwise they are all a bit dimmer and no one minds, since we don't need it bright enough to perform surgery in the trailer...

After doing mine once wirh some REAL cheap china led's and not liking them (not consistent color) I redid whole trailer (again) with diff ones (still china) 24ct smd , 1.2w, 3000k color (closest to incandescent) wedge base NO POLATIRY...these are so much nicer than the previous ones I had...just pop the old ones out and put the new ones in!....fyi in a lacrosse 318 there are 33 wedge base bulbs , the three pin style in the entertainment center, and the 3 bayonet style in the vent hood (1) and over the pedestal table (2)....I didn't replace the fridge bulb ...yet...lol

Oh and the scare light and front cap lights are an automotive style bulb...1157 comes to mind. ..not for sure on that number...its a basic parking lamp..(I didnt swap those as I dont use em, I run my underawning led strips)

sent from fat fingers via a space dish thing with no regard to grammer.

Oh and one more thing, the bag said 250 lumens...anything less isnt as bright as incandescent. ..but my newer barqman lights have lense covers that have a magnifying/focusing portion in the middle of the lense....I noticed my fil jayco didnt and it made the bulbs look dimmer in his unit.....

Ok...thats all I can recall...im leaving on vacation (non camping) and killing time till I leave...

20x T10 W5W 194 501 168 LED Light 5050 SMD 13 LED White Tail Side Bulb lamp USA

I got ones like these for $20 and they seem plenty bright enough for us.

The one on the right is the led and the other is old bulb, as you can see the room is plenty bright with the leds

my original ones were "whitish" like that.....prob 5000k....wife nixed them quickly as they seemed too "hospital" for her tastes...(she works there so hence the association )lol....the HID projectors i retrofit in my F250 are 5500k and its a VERY white light.....higher numbers go into blue and then purple....the higher K do seem brighter, but at the sacrifice of perceived color output.....some people like the bright white.....we didnt.....good thing you can buy em in all diff colors..my biggest issue was slight color diff from bulb to bulb in same lot....so i had to hand match em for color.....no biggie..

Our current fifth wheel was our first camper with all led's from the factory...what an improvement vs incandescent lighting in all aspects: light intensity output/low heat output/low voltage use, etc.. Sweet!

The real white ones are the original light bulbs, the one that looks blueish is the led but picture really makes them look more blue than they are.
