Lights going out, but other power remains on

We are at a campground and plugged into the 30amp service. The past 2 nights we will be watching tv and suddenly the lights will go out. We hear the carbon monoxide detector beep as it does when you use the battery disconnect switch. The tv and other power remains on. The light in the refrigerator goes out. After about 20 seconds the lights come back on. This has happened 3 or 4 times both nights. Had wondered if it had something to do with the heater cycling, but that is not it. Any suggestions or ideas?

We have a Forest River, Sunseeker 2860DS.

sounds like your converter is overheating and your battery is dead
you converter is probably over heating because your battery is toast and the converter is working double time.

or the fan in your converter gave up the ghost which is common with a wfco converter and its overheating and shutting down till it cools .

The batteries are disconnected by the disconnect switch while we are plugged in. The converter fan is running at the moment. I just checked it. So we are still puzzled as the lights have gone out 2 more times since the last post.

you should have the batteries connected !!!!!!!

The reason your lights are quite possibly going out is because your converter is over heating and shutting down to cool . then when it cools down it fires back up again .
you need the batteries to buffer the load .

Thank you!!! We were told when we purchased the unit that the disconnect switch was to be in the off position except when we were driving. What you say makes perfect sense. The disconnect switch is now on and we will see if this solves the problem. Going to have the batteries checked as soon as we get back home. Will keep you updated. Thank you again!!!!

well that may explain that ! lol
in my experience the wfco units have a weak link . one is cooling efficiency either they don't cool enough and over heat under normal conditions or the cheap fan quit and the converter overheats and gives up the ghost.

if it should ever fail replace it with a progressive dynamics inteli power .
it would be money well spent even though they cost a little more .

Wanted to bring you up to date. We had a night with lights and absolutely no interruptions to power. We can't thank you enough for your input. If the wfco fails we will replace with the progressive dynamics. Thank you! Husband says we are set now if we could just get better milage we would have it made in the shade.
