Need Help Finding Wire Connection - E-450

Hey all,

By any chance does anyone know of, or how to find, an easily accessible wire that is powered on and off when the ignition is on and off? 2016 E-450 chassis.

Thanks!

I do not own e-450 but if I was going to I would run a jumper off of cig lighter. Depending on what needs to be run and if it does turn off with key off-some (GM) do not.

below the steering wheel to the side of where the fuses are there are four wires color coded that are for the uplifter switches any of these are hot with the key

I'm not sure what those would look like, but I'll see if I can figure it out. Thanks!

Find the fuse box under the dash and use a 12v test light. 1) Find an empty fuse slot and test it with the test light. Auto parts stores sell a fuse device that has a wire coming off of it. The fuse part goes into the slot and attach your device's feed wire to the wire coming off the fuse. That is how I wired my dash cam in my truck.

The only problem with the adapter retired camper suggests is the newer Fords pin spades in the BCM (fuse box) are very weak and will spread creating a poor connection in the future especially if you delete it later and put just the fuse back in. Find a good source and solder your connections as scotchlocks are poor connectors as well

IF your 450 came with the factory installed 7-way Bargman plug then one of the wires in it should be hot. That pin would be labeled (+) and should be hot when the ignition is turned on.

I asked the service department at my Ford dealer the same question about my F-150 when I was in for an oil change. I wanted two wires for my tranny gauge:

1. ignition on power
2. instrument cluster dimmer power (for the bulb)

They asked about 7 different mechanics and one of them finally knew off the top of his head. Alas, that was 2008 and I have forgotten the wire and tracer colors the guy gave me. But the dealer should have some one who knows.

In lieu of paralleling an existing circuit, you may overload.... Go back under the steering column (DC buss) and choose a open fused connection marked IGN and use that. Chose fuse rating to serve your load.
