New generator purchase

I was at Costco and picked up a Champaign 3100 generator for $399. I could not pass it up!

That’s a good price for a Champion 3100....don’t know much about the Champaign line however.

I've never seen the Champion 3100w inverter generator for that price.
Can you post a pic of your generator.
I want to take it to my Costco.

That’s a great price. I picked up a Champion 3400. You’ll be very happy with it.

Was it used or refurbished?

I just looked at Costco it's saying 849. Champion DUAL-FUEL 2800wt Running / 3100wt Peak Digital Inverter Generator, Electric Start, RV Ready, Parallel Capable, CARB & EPA Certified, Low Decibels. That's the only one listed not sure if it's the same.

My local Sam's Club had a Champion unit in the same price range, but it is a conventional generator, not an inverter. I have the Champion 3400 Dual Fuel Inverter unit and it was just over $1,000 last year. Big difference in sound output level between the two types.

Got the same deal at Amazon
Runs at 58 db and has an economy setting even quieter.

I am amazed at that price for an inverter.

These are rated at 58db on the box. There are lots of reviews on the web that rate the sound level. These units have been in my local Costco for some time now and recently the price has dropped a couple of times.

Sorry if this deal is not in other Costco but I had to run with this deal!

It is a great price even if it's a used/refurb as I mentioned earlier.
They are usually in the $650-$750 range.

I have one and it's great. Nice and quiet compared to the generators of this size. With the dual fuel model you don't need to fiddle with main jet on gasoline only carburetor models. The LPG regulator diaphragm automatically adjusts fuel delivery based on altitude. Yes, with LPG the power output is less (about 600 watts) but the no hassle feature if you travel at high altitude, as well as the fact the unit runs twice as long on a tank of Propane than a tank of gasoline offsets this to a point. I just make sure my big loads are off line when I want to run the A/C but most of the areas where I travel at high altitude don't require A/C anyway.

I can run the unit for 15 hours average on one of those "exchange" LPG cylinders and I carry two, along with a couple 6 gallon gas containers.

As for quiet, When I leave the unit in my pickup bed with tailgate down, It's no louder than the people in the next campsite and from two campsites away I can't hear it at all. Most of the time the "Eco Mode" is fast enough for operation with it only kicking into high speed when the A/C cycles the compressor. For battery charging it never goes into high speed.

Just as quiet and reliable as the Honda 3100 unit but half the cost, with electric start too.
