no 12v dc plug?
Just purchased a 2013 FR Surveyor Sport 24
There does not seem to be a 12v dc plug. we like to use one for charging cell phones while boon docking. Have I just not looked in the right place?
How would you wire one in?
Thanks

really simple once you have the 12v outlet, you can get them at an trailer sales or amazon.
hardest part is finding a 12 v source in a spot you can fit the outlet. once you find a source and can fit the outlet its just 2 wires.

solution
Take down a 12 volt light under a cupboard. Splice into the two wires then put it back up and mount the 12Volt socket next to the light. Be sure to keep polarity correct. Often white is negative in a trailer. Might mount something like this with double sided tape next to light. Just cut the cigarette liter end off and strip back the wire. Also has USB port

Mark,
I suppose I could find a light fixture mounted on a cabinet and splice into that wire.
Or piggy back on to a circuit in the inverter box.
Thanks

Look close or-------------
Look or on the TV antenna amplifier board, where you turn the antenna off/on. There should be a 12VDC female connector. Or go to Walmart purchase a 110VAC wall charger for your phone, very cheap!
Opps, went back and read your original post where you said BOON DOCKING!
Try charging in tow vehicle at night!

Yes, I could leave the key on accessory in the unlocked truck and go to bed. Wake up truck and phone gone. :rollback:
Would like a dc fan in bedroom, so I may run off the battery, through the forward storage into the br closet with correct polarity and inline fuse.

Not being familiar with your particular trailer, this advice is just based on mine. I have a 12 volt plug inside the cabinet where the antenna booster button is. It's kind of in a corner and hard to see without a flashlight....but it's there. I would recommend looking in the cabinet near your television just to see.
I also installed another one:

I added 12v ports in my bunk area for the kids by pulling down the lights and splicing. Wish I would have disconnected the battery first- the power outlet I picked up from Wally World had a small capacitor in it and if I connected the positive before I connected the negitive the capacitor would let its magic smoke out. So I had to buy a second set!

my Roo 23SS didn't have a 12v outlet either but i decided to hardwire an inverter instead.
much more versatile than the 12v outlet.
i plug the tv and dvd into it and charge electronic devices into it.

frcamp.
In most vehicles, the power point and the lighter have power with the key on or off so no need for the key to be in the ignition. I installed 2 12v power points in the trailer. One is installed under the cabinet below the main switch panel and is wired to the power wire for the interior light switch. The other one is under the cabinet below the entertainment center and is wired to the power point on the antenna booster panel.

griz,
I took up the bench in the dinette and can splice into a wire feeding the LP gas detector and mount the recep beside the inverter. Bought one with inline fuse so if it blows I'll have to access that space to replace it. I've found that most auto parts stores and radio shack only sell under dash mount types not flush mount, so will go online to find one and maybe get overload protected type too.
Haven't had time to look behind the TV jacks yet, that would be the best location.
Last time i tried to charge the phone in my Tundra it was dead unless the key was on.

That's possible with the Tundra.

I used the "Prime Products 12 volt outlet, part number:08-5015".I got this from my local RV dealer. You can see this outlet at this web site. 12 Volt Cords & Outlets - Prime Products - Providing the RV community with a wide variety of
You would have to wire in a fuse and holder. I googled-"prime products rv" and got various places to purchase the outlet.
Hope this helps.

If you have a stereo, check to see if there is a USB port on it. This should be able to charge a cell phone using the right plug.

You can always go the 12v route which would work for dry camping. I do not dry camp often enough, so I actually replaced an outlet in my sanibel with This outlet.

Thanks

I installed one in the cabinet next to the stereo in my trailer. Easy access from there. I also plan to add one behind the TV mount so that I can hook up an inverter and plug in the TV while boondocking.
And holy crap. Thanks for pointing out the fact that the genesis radio has a USB port on it and should be good for charging. Not sure why I didn't think of that before.

On most GM's the power goes off after about 5 or 10 minutes to the accessories. At least it does on TOWTA's 96 Cad and my 05 Silverado.
