No Lights or 12V power

I recently purchased a used Wildwood Forest River X-Lite Travel Trailer 2011 26BH. It took me a few months before I could get my power pole installed to hook up the trailer.

Now that I have power the only thing that works is the AC unit.

Could this be caused by the battery being dead or bad battery cell.

It has been plugged in for several weeks now.

There are a few things that can prevent you from getting 12 volt power through out the RV. The most common would be the main fuse blown. Have you checked all the fuses in the converter?

It would also be helpful if you could tell us the make of the converter.

If it was not on shore power for a while and you did not disconnect battery ( switch or manual) the battery probably went dead. If you connect to shore power with a dead battery, the current from the converter to the battery ( charge current) can exceed the fuse capacity and blow the fuse ( 30-40A). You can try charging the batteries with an automotive charger to get them up to normal then reconnect them, but usually if you draw the battery down too low ( dead) it never fully recovers. Charge the battery and take it to an auto parts store they can test it.

Check the battery Reverse polarity fuses.

Converter should run 12v regardless of battery good bad or otherwise.

Also check converter circuit breaker.

Ok, being the cynic I am on new power installations, let's start there and work forward. The reason for this, is we have seen TOO many times that an electrician wires the outlet for 240 volts and ruins many things. Your RV is only 120 volts.

Do you have a 50 amp (4 prongs on power cord) or 30 amp (3 prongs on power cord) RV, and did the electrician wire an outlet for same (50 or 30) or are you using an adapter?

Do you have a microwave in the RV, and if so are the lights on (clock, etc)?

If the electrician incorrectly wired your RV for 240 volts, it will almost always fry the converter...which is what powers your lights and other 12 volt things as well as recharges your battery. With a fried converter, your 12 volt stuff will still work directly off of the battery up until the point it is depleted....since there is no way to recharge with a fried converter. You may have had lights initially, but once the battery ran down, then they also quit working.

Until we ascertain that you have a correctly wired outlet, please do not attempt to turn on the air conditioner again as you will damage it, as well as anything else you plug into an outlet inside the trailer that works off of 120 volt AC power.

A 240 volt installation will usually always take out the converter, and more times than not, the microwave and televisions if equipped.

If the converter is working properly the battery disconnect shouldn't matter, if it even has one.

I don't know where the converter is located on my camper. I will contact my electrician to see how he hooked it up.

Does your RV's power cord have 4 prongs on the end of it, or only three?
I would assume your RV is a 30 amp variety, but want to confirm.

Can you tell us, what exactly you are plugged into?

Can you, or are comfortable with using an electrical multimeter?

Often there is also an inline fuse with-in a couple of feet of the battery. It could be blown causing everything to be dead.

Something similar happened to me. All my 120 v appliances were working, none of the 12 v items were working.

I checked all the fuses. They were all good.

I went to a CW and they found that I had pinched the umbilical cord and shorted out the 30 amp Main fuse located under the front of the trailer. The battery was fully charged via my SUV.

Just a thought.

That is the fuse I mentioned above. It is often overlooked, many may not even know it is there.

I have never seen or heard of a main fuse at the battery. Anyone know if this is relevant on a Berkshire?

"IF" the converter is working properly then this fuse being talked about is irrelevant regardless of good, bad or non existent battery.

5) was the shore power pedestal wired for 220? The electrician wired it 220 by mistake, I put meter on it today and it showed 240 volts from rectp
