Now nothing works, how can I tell if I fried converter or any appliances?
Unfortunately this happens quite a lot (even by licensed electricians), and I'm sorry to hear about it. It's just one of those live and learn things, so don't knock yourself up about it. If you do need to replace the converter, depending on what you had, you can look at this as an opportunity to upgrade to a better converter.
One of our members last year was lucky enough that it was just the converter that got fried, and she had no other damage. Hopefully, that's all that happened to yours. She was also fortunate enough to have a mobile RV service guy come out to her house and change it out. It was not too expensive at all for her.
It's not that hard to change the converter if you are comfortable working with things like that, If not, then you will need to get someone else.
Herk, posted several links to similar forums about this, while we were helping her. Here is a link to his post:
Need help, camping Friday
Also included in these posts is information about surge guards
and outlet testing
--------either one which could have saved this from happening to you.
Maybe others will read this, and learn from it too....so they don't make a similar mistake.
P.S. I have stated many times that I sure wish RV dealers would make that pdf file that Turbs and others have pointed out about 'how to properly wire a 30 amp outlet'...a mandatory part of selling a trailer. But that would take money out their pockets, in fixing the damage done when it happens.
Maybe we can make it a mandatory download when new members register here in these forums or at least have a link show up on your registration page. LOL
