Plug in upgrade quick question

Hey guys, I am doing an upgrade to my plug in. I had a hatch with a short length of cord that can be pulled out and plugged in. I am converting it over to a twist lock plug. While digging around in there I noticed about a foot inside the trailer where the wire coils up when not in use, a critter had at one point chewed the rubber insulation off the wire. I was going to cut it back to that point and wire my plug in with 12-2 romex from the plug to that point. Just wondering if anyone sees an issue with that.
