Power and Surge Protection
Been a lot of reports of camper damage due to bad park power lately.
I was wondering how many use "protection"?

30 amps Surge Guard - came in handy the second time I used it. Several power outages last 4th of July at a 18 month old campground.
I got a good deal on it last summer:
Sale price $247.99 less $75 coupon = $172.99 for peace of mind

Have a Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C hard wired unit with remote monitoring on order. Like all my other mods for this year just need to find time to do them all.

CW had the PI PT30C on sale for $215. Called last week to order and was told they were sold out and would not be getting any more. Called Dyers, and ordered one for $273, bummer. Should receive it in the next couple days!

Cheap security for-----------
Cheap security for your surge protector is very simple.
1 four foot piece of chain, one "S" hook, 1 master lock.
Put the "S" hook through the last link, use vise grips or vise to close "s" hook on last link. Now place the "s" hook and chain around bottom the surge protector cable just above the female plug, bend the other end of the "S" hook close to complete the security of your surge protector.
Four feet of chain will reach around most electrical pedestal or post in any camp ground.
I know the chain can be cut, but it will make most thieves move on to the next unprotected surge protector.

Just wondering.... Most pedestals I have seen are lockable... Is there a problem with locking them closed?

I'm no electrician, but will it be safe to put a metal chain around the plug and then around the post? All I know about electricity is that it will bite you!
Will the campground owner/manager appreciate you locking his power box?
I have been wondering how I will secure it, safely, to the post and make everybody happy.
I know, I know, most people in a campground are honest. Notice I said most. I don't have much but what I have is mine, and I'd like to keep it that way.

My advise... being a cop and all (no one listens to me until it happens) is to get one!
Everyone I know didn't have one and said they would never need one.
with my trailer being 2 weeks old we took it to Saint Andrews campground in NB Canada
240 volt surge for over an hour because of a bad wiring time bomb.
campground owned facilities but the power company was blamed originally.
8 trailers damaged including ours.
800 dollars later we had the situation corrected.
One gentleman and his girlfriend (80 and 78) had their trailer lite up like the 4th of July. Microwave, fridge, air con all fried, and their trailer was 15 yrs old.
They got next to nothing.
That was Sept and we had to fight with their insurance co. for repayment which we got end December.
I installed a 30 am Progressive industries hardwire unit for the 259 it was selling for (if memory serves me correctly) and will not have this sort of nightmare again.
So stop thinking about it and like Nike says "Just do it".
