power awning not working

The Dometic 895? Model power awning on our 2012 sunseeker 2300 is suddenly not functioning. We hear a click when the rocker switch is depressed, but there it's no awning motion. We checked the fuse in the doorwell... It appears to be unbroken. What else should we check?

It may have rolled up crooked and put the arms in a bind. Have someone push the switch while you pull on or pry on an arm. Make sure you stand to the side.

Wouldn't it sound like the motor is trying to extend the awning if this were the case? No sound of motor effort after click.

You're right, should hear something. Check to make sure the connection is good at the motor. Might also be a fuse on the motor.

Where would we find the motor to check connections or extra fuses?

There should be a connection for the motor at the end of the awning. Facing the awning, RH side at the top of the arm. Extra fuze, no idea.

You may have pinched the wires and "opened" one or unplugged the motor as DunnNC said.

Also check the fuse with a meter (not be eye).
Open fuses can sometimes look good.

Awning

Make sure your ignition is not on at all.... It will not work if it is. This is the issue i had !!! Sounds simple but i'm sure many people have had this issue due to keys in ignition !!!

Check the motor. I think there was an issue a while back...the switch does not disengage when the awning comes in...so it keeps trying to bring the awning in. Motor burns up. Need to replace the switch and the motor.

My dealer mentioned when I purchased my unit that if awning motor acts weird un plug it and then plug it back in at the motor.
He said 9 times out of ten that fixes it.
Don't know if it works or not mine has never given us an issue yet.
Just an Fyi.

Stopped by shop and they checked power going to motor, said it is getting power but motor is froze up, will need to be replaced. They'll need to order it. Guess we won't have an awning this trip. . Wonder what we need to do differently to avoid future issues?

Is motor still under warranty?

We are 2nd owners of 2011 Sunseeker... Dealership gave us extended warranty when we purchased, so it should be covered under that, we hope. We have owned for three months... Have had backup camera monitor, propane detector and awning motor go out in that time. Hoping we can get all three on same "incident" claim with single deductible.

Please make sure you replace the switch as well. Otherwise you may have the same issue soon.

We have a 2300 2012 (assembled Feb. 2012). Should we be concerned about the switch? Would be a lot easier to replace a switch now than a motor later if this is likely to become an issue. (Cheaper for FR also) .

I'm not sure. It is a dometic switch and a dometic awning, so more costly for them than us. I have only seen it on a few units (we've been running the power awning for several years now) so I wouldn't worry yet.

RvBill - Your switch should be fine. It was the model before the current one we use that caused problems. As BClemens mentioned earlier, the switch would stick and motors would burn out. Current switch has not shown any of these issues up to date.
