it almost sounds like u lost the AC supply to the trailer. maybe as simple as the supply wire burning at the breaker box.

it shouldn't have affected the DC side at all: the battery should have absorbed anything there if anything had gotten by the regulator.

before u scrap any of ur AC appliances, make sure to check the fuse at the appliance (TV, Microwave, converter, hot water heater element, frige element). that's abt all i can think of that would have been affected by a surge in the 110V.

i don't know if u ever tried to turn on the propane and test the frige on propane.

At first glance, the plugs look similar to the 220 circuits used several years ago. they would put 2 hots and a neutral. now days, u have a neutral, ground, and hot(s)

if i had not worked on the electrical on a travel trailer and was handed one of those plugs, i would have assumed the same thing. and yes..i have an electronics background...that can be more dangerous on an electrical system than someone with an electrical background.

I'm hoping that whoever works on it trouble shoots it and doesn't just change parts.

good luck with this "Old Car" - hope it all works out and let us know what you find out.

you probably could have done most of the work your self and saved a bundle.

like calling the converter company and telling them what happened and asking what they charge to repair the converter and send it to them as well as the TV also.
Worst thing that could happen is you have to buy a new one but still cheaper then adding the dealerships labor cost.

Thanks shedep! I'm not the handiest of people with DIY projects once you get out of the woodworking circle. Not knowing what all issues I will face with this "accident" I just want to get the TT fixed so we can enjoy getting back out again. We made our trip to Georgia the third week of June and haven't planned anything in July and August because of the heat but it would be nice to slip away at the last minute if the weather breaks a bit. It will probably be next week before I know the full situation but I'll keep this thread updated.

I am the opposite - can work on just about anything except woodworking is my weak point - always seems to never be straight cuts or the blade is so dull I burn the wood trying to cut it

I did install some metal shelves and used 1 x 2 as the support and actually turned out pretty good for a change

Well, the damage is in. Television, microwave, entertainment center (Concertone ZX700) and Main Power Assembly/Converter. Saved the air conditioner, fridge, water heater, and furnace. 7 to 10 days and will have the TT back good as new. Now we'll see what insurance says.

I like the good as new part, and share Herk's sentiment.

Thanks guys! I told them to proceed with ordering parts while I engage the insurance company. Hopefully I'll get some help with it. I have all the "ruined" components coming back to me so we'll see if anything can be salvaged.

Insurance came through. Power surge, even self induced, is covered. Friday the 13th came with good news!
